Born on 22 July 2018 in Delft
I was thrilled when Lisa contacted me after her midwife recommended me as a birth photographer. After giving birth myself in January to our second child, I was looking forward to attending a birth again. When I met Lisa and Barry on a warm summer evening, we almost immediately had a mutual click, and 2 hours passed by as we chatted about our kids and birth experiences. They had missed nice pictures of the birth of their son, so I was happy that they chose me as their photographer this time around.
The week before I officially went on call for them, I had contact with Lisa, and it seemed like their little girl would join them earlier than the estimated due date. Indeed, I got a call from Barry saying the contractions had started two days short of 38 weeks. They were hoping their daughter would be born that day, so I changed my weekend plans and decided to stay at home. When I got the final call to join them at the hospital, Lisa was exactly 38 weeks pregnant.
Lisa was wishing to give birth in a birthing pool at the hospital. At first, the contractions seemed to become weaker in water, so Lisa waited until her waters were broken and the contractions got stronger to go back to the bath tub. From that moment on, she was a birthing queen, following her contractions and body. Her concentration and strength paid off, and just as she thought she could not take it any more, she moved on to gently pushing her baby out in water. Barry was supporting her throughout and eventually joined her in the pool. Just as they wished, their baby girl was born into their arms in water.
It was so unfortunate that Lisa had heavy bleeding after this peaceful birth. But until she had to go to the operating theater, she held her baby close, and after that the little Lilou enjoyed some skin-to-skin time with her father, until her big brother and grandparents came to meet her. Welcome to this world and to this sweet family beautiful Lilou!
